Welcome to Roger Nolan Photography
I started out as a hiker and was drawn to photography because I wanted to bring my experiences back to share with other people. Because the truly transcendent moments in nature tend to be extremely fleeting, I needed a way to capture a specific moment in time and bring it back.

I quickly learned no camera can close to seeing what the human eye can see. The first step to becoming an outdoor photographer is to understand the limitations of the camera relative to the human eye and to use artistic expression to bring back the parts of the experience that communicate the true feeling of the moment, that can allow your audience to “stand in your shoes” for a few minutes.
Besides that, photography gives me a really good reason to slow down and observe nature for long periods of time rather than hurrying on to my next hiking destination.
My photographic vision is all about light, mood, and the feeling of a place or moment. This has caused me to work on the margins of the day; around sunrise, around sunset, and during atmospheric conditions when there is no strong direct light. If I can communicate even a small part of the magic I have felt at these moments, then I will consider myself successful.

The images on my Web site are limited to 72 dpi with sRGB. Please be
assured that a printed image at 300 to 360 dpi and a larger color gamut will have more detail and a much
richer color palate than can be presented on the Web. English Translation: Prints look amazingly better than Web images. If you are interested in a print, please go to "Contact Us."
I hope that you enjoy these images! Please check back as I will be updating this site on a regular basis. If you want to stay informed of new additions, please subscribe to the blog.
